(Metal Blade)

Want to hear a group of old mates having the time of their lives? Check out Carpe Noctum.

Armored Saint’s second live album – originally part of a PledgeMusic campaign – is a collection of metal classics old and new culled from the LA outfit’s sets at the 2015 Wacken Festival and at their headline show in Aschaffenburg, Germany.

Singer John Bush is on imperious form – as you would expect – and he sounds like he’s relishing the band’s Indian summer while belting out phenomenal new material such as Win Hands Down and Mess.

What’s more, the likes of Reign of Fire also put the spotlight on guitarists Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan, whose scintillating leadwork really shines through.

However, this album boasts performances the whole band can be proud of, with Armored Saint working in unison to create some truly anthemic moments – Last Train Home and Left Hook From Right Field immediately spring to mind.

A must for long-standing fans and a gateway for the uninitiated, Carpe Noctum captures a band looking to the future, but also honouring their past. The Saint goes marching on…
