Out Now

First things first. As band names go Radiation Romeos is rubbish. Ridiculous. Just rank bad. But not content with naming his band after a bunch of contaminated Casanovas, founder Parramore McCarty has rolled out a self-titled album with an opening track of the same name!

Comfortably disproving the theory that good things come in threes, the fact that ‘Radiation Romeos’ features in a line from the Atomic Playboys’ song of the same name is simply no excuse.

But let’s move on. The music is a different matter.

Hewn from the same mine of melodic hard rock as 80s Scorpions and classic Dokken, this is instantly catchy and crazily addictive.

Ocean Drive and Bad Bad Company allow the insanely talented McCarty (once of Warrior and Steve Stevens’ aforementioned Atomic Playboys) the opportunity to run through his full vocal range but it’s on ballad Like An Arrow that the singer truly excels. Who knew sugar sweet FM radio anthems like this even existed in 2017?

There’s not a bad song here – even the initially cumbersome set closer Monstertraxx somehow manages to emerge triumphant and Dag Heyne’s guitar work is remarkable throughout.

Time to dig out Warrior’s (now there’s a great metal name) Fighting For The Earth
