Tequila Mockingbyrd are midway through their longest headline run to date. HRH Mag saw the band kick off their European tour in Ibiza last month and decided it was time to check in again with three of rock and roll’s hottest prospects.
From San Antonio to South Shields via Southampton…Tequila Mockingbyrd’s long and winding Road To Summer 2018 tour rolls on. Just.
Following the theft of their gear in Spain, various ailments and injuries threatened to knock the Anglo-Aussie trio off course. But when it comes to bouncebackability few bands recover quite so well. And true to form this was a show that laughed in the face of crisis and screamed triumph in adversity.
Ably supported by the riotous Renegade 12 – think Iron Maiden meets Avenged Sevenfold with a Suffolk slant – the T-Byrds took the opportunity to race through a jam-packed set of tried and tested anthems mixed with refreshing new tunes.
And that new music is bloody marvellous. Louisa Baker might have fallen into the band almost by chance but what a happy accident for a band that’s been blighted by bad luck in the past.
The new voice of the T-Byrds provides the perfect platform for the trio’s bold new direction – where polished melodies jostle for position with that trademark punk-fuelled punch to create some kind of pop rock heaven. The band’s brand new album can’t drop soon enough.
Latest single Tell Me ticks all the right boxes and there’s plenty more where that came from. Take your pick from Enjoy The Ride, Pretty Picture, Pink Cigar, Forget My Number and Hair Down – all went down a storm on a night when the T-Byrds took their game to the next level.
Josie O’Toole has fought long and hard to keep her rock and roll dream alive – the pint-sized drummer is the only original member of a band that’s so far struggled for stability – but the battle’s finally paying off.
Behind Baker and powerhouse bassist Jacinta Jaye, the T-Byrds’ driving force is building for the future and that future’s never looked brighter. Keeping the current line-up together is key but after so many false starts it seems O’Toole can finally Enjoy The Ride on the Road To Summer 2018.
