Glaswegian four-piece Anchor Lane are set to release their debut album Casino – it’s a cracker and I can tell you that 2020 is going to be a massive year for this band of hard rockin’ Scots.

The album was produced by none other than Toby Jepson who most of you will know as frontman of HRH favourites Wayward Sons, who after hearing the demos believed the band had a flair for intuitive and intelligent writing – so was more than happy to commit to the project. Add to the mix two tracks which were co-written by Ricky Warwick of Black Star Riders, the hook-filled album opener Blood & Irony and the fantastic Dead Run which also features Ricky on backing vocals and you’ve got the recipe for contender of album of the year.

Anchor Lane first came to the public’s attention with their 4 track EP New Beginning. Since then they have toured incessantly with the likes of Cheap Trick, Eagles of Death Metal and Tremonti. So here we are two and a bit years later and they’ve put everything they’ve learned and experienced into writing and recording a stunning debut album, the song structures, lyrical content and musicianship is perfect. Production can sometimes ruin a band’s sound but I personally think the job that Toby has done here captures the essence of the band to a tee.

Where this album excels, however, is in the tracks the boys have written themselves. This takes nothing away from the co-written tracks but the maturity and flat out quality of the self-written material is second to none. Stand out tracks for me are Stone Cold Hearted, Shell of Me and Honey. If you buy one album to start 2020 off rockin’ then you need to take a gamble on Casino.

Ricky said of working with the band “Anchor Lane are everything a rock band should be. They have attitude, ability, swagger and most importantly songs… their passport to a very bright future is assured.”

Toby added “When I met the guys they said “We want to change the world, we want to write something that makes a difference.” They’re ambitious with strength of character and real vision. This is their first album and judging by the material they’ve come up with so far, they have a very big future.”

Casino is out now via R7 Records on CD, Digital Platforms and Limited Edition 12” vinyl picture disc.
